Open Question: Pet Rent in North Carolina.. what does it cover? please help?
i have lived in an apartment complex for 3 yrs.. i have a dog.. i pay $45 a month for the time ive lived there.. what does the pet rent cover? just recently new property management has taken over.. they have done inspections and saw some wear to the carpet the dog has done(he did it 1st year when he was a puppy, every inspection prior this one the carpet was never mentioned)the new owner they told me i have to replace it now and pay $800 out of my pocket in the next 21 days or they will start court precedings and eviction.. i would understand replacing it before or when i leave but i am still living there..(i am on a month to month lease) they said i was in violation of my lease…i paid a pet deposit ans $45 a month doesnt this cover replacing carpets(they are going to replace anyway? why charge pet rent if your not going to use it for the pet related costs? what does pet rent in NC legally cover… $800 is alot of money on a moments notice…(i was told by prior maintence workers that worked here before that they didnt even charge for the cheap carpet that was installed because it was the stringy kind that if 1 stand comes loose it takes a whole row out)…. what can i do? legally can i do anything? ………….and wouldnt it make sense to have me pay when i move out? why when im still living there is it necessary to replace carpet…i still have dog what if it happens again? please advise
